It’s January 2025 and the App of the Month is 1Password!

A Cross-Platform Password Manager That "just works".

My journey with 1Password began during grad school when I was juggling multiple devices - an iPad, Windows laptop, PC, and iPhone. While Apple now offers a free standalone password app, I've stayed committed to 1Password for several reasons.

Why choose a paid solution ($35/year) over Apple's free offering? 1Password goes beyond basic password management:

- Secured notes and credit card storage for streamlined online shopping

- API key generation capabilities

- PassKey support

- Multi-vault organization for different sets of information

- Cross-platform flexibility (perfect if you switch between Apple/Android and Windows)

- Backup solution for existing Apple passwords

- Secure password sharing with customizable expiration settings

The platform isn't without its quirks - the browser extensions can be finicky at times, particularly with Safari's autofill feature. You might need to disable Safari's built-in password autofill to prevent overlap issues. However, these minor inconveniences stem mainly from being a third-party service rather than a native solution.

For those deep in the Apple ecosystem, Apple Passwords might be the logical choice. However, if you value cross-platform compatibility, advanced features, and a proven track record, 1Password offers an intuitive, reliable solution at a reasonable price point. Alternative options like BitLocker and Nord's password manager exist, but 1Password's ease of use and consistent performance across devices make it my go-to choice for password management.

As someone who prioritizes simplicity and reliability in tech tools, 1Password continues to earn its place in my digital workflow. The family sharing features, vault organization, and comprehensive security features justify the subscription cost for my use case.

Essential Mac Utilities Preview

I am working on a video about 5 essential Mac utilities. I’ll give you, my reader, a sneak peek at the most impactful of the 5 and you can check out the video next week on YouTube.

I’ll be highlighting Raycast as one of the options. Yes, a spotlight search replacement. It is that and so much more, I have been enjoying adding aliases to some of my apple shortcuts to make them run easily with just a few keyboard commands.

The most helpful thing I’ve found so far is the ability to switch audio output devices with Raycast. Helpful for swapping between the apple studio display speakers and my audio interface when video editing.

I have the cmd + space shortcut mapped to Raycast, I type sod for switch output device, and can then select the audio interface without needing to grab the mouse.

This is just one of 5 time saving utilities I have in store for this video so get subscribed for the next video!

Running Stats

New Channel Launched - Not Another Pair

One of my other favorite hobbies is shoes and most recently running shoes. I have spent the better part of a year figuring out which running shoes I enjoy wearing, but also have a number of different workout, lifestyle and skateboard shoes that I often wear.

I noticed in the first video I am far more human on camera talking about shoes than I am about tech for whatever reason, so come watch this passion shine through, especially as spring hits and winter clears. You want to have the best shoes possible to help you reach your goals for the summer!
